GIOIA COMPANY: offers a collection of lovely Italian gifts, masks and venetian glass. Kathy Winkelman, owner of la Gioia, expresses her passion for Italy by lovingly hand picking Italian arts and crafts and offering them for sale through her private gallery and on-line store.I met Kathy at an Italian street fair in San Jose, California. I stopped by her booth to buy one of her Venetian masks. We became friends and she invited me to join her Italian conversation group. In addition to the Italian gifts she finds in Italy, Kathy offers for sale masks made by Carla Almanza-de Quant, an Italian artist who has studied with a Venetian mask maker. I had the great fortune to spend an afternoon with these two ladies at one of their mask making workshops, learning the ancient craft of Venetian mask making.
