Florence: Florence is famous for its history: a centre of medieval European trade and finance
and one of the wealthiest cities of the time, it is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, and has been called “the Athens of the Middle Ages”. A turbulent political history includes periods of rule by the powerful Medici family, and numerous religious and republican revolutions. From 1865 to 1871 the city was the capital of the recently established Kingdom of Italy. Florence is also a modern and multicultural city, with its museums, theaters, cultural events like the “calcio storico”, old markets, hidden gardens and astonishing city center, offers many different kinds of cultural attractions and the best way to discover all the hidden aspects of this incredible town is to be guided by a native Florentine.
Recently I met up with Giovanni and Benedetta during a recent trip to Florence. As luck would have it, they were hosting Angela a Matta Blog reader who was spending a Homestay Language Vacation with them after booking it through the Matta Blog! We spent a delightful evening together, chatting, dining in a favorite Florentine restaurant and strolling through the streets of Florence. Here are a couple of photos I took during our evening together.
Giovanni and Benedetta’s Program. Learning by doing is the one of the most effective ways to learn a language and to experience a different culture. That’s why Giovanni and Benedetta, who are both tour guides and certified Italian teachers, will get you involved in many activities, showing you Florence as only a native Florentine knows it and giving you the chance to experience the real Italian life. Cooking is one of the basics of the Italian culture and one of the best activities to share time together. With Giovanni and Benedetta you will learn how to make fresh pasta, parmigiana, ragù, the Florentine “ribollita” and “pappa al pomodoro” and many other Italian recipes! Walking tours available upon request.
For those who sign up through the Matta Blog to stay with Giovanni & Benedetta you will also receive a complimentary welcome aperitivo 2 cooking classes!
