Recentemente ci siamo trovate, abbiamo fatto una bella amicizia e quindi abbiamo deciso di fare una collaborazione! I would like to present my friend Mari who is an Italian language teacher who lives in Catania in Sicilia. Recently we discovered one another and became great friends and so we decided to work together! Now through the Studentessa Matta site it is also possible to organize a Homestay with her in Sicilia.

Mari ha un homestay meraviglioso per offrirvi in una delle zone più belle d’Italia – Catania! È una città che si trova tra il mar Ionio e le ripida pendenza dell’Etna. L’area intorno alla città è piena di verde e la città vi accoglierà con le sue grandi piazze, le ampie strade e la favolosa architettura barocca. Catania ha molti tesori artistici, musei ecclesiastici e rovine romane degne di essere visitate. È anche collegato ai siti archeologici di Agrigento. La cattedrale, dedicata a Sant’Agata, patrona dell città, sorge sul sito di una chiesa del’XI secolo.

Mari has a wonderful Italian language homestay to offer you in one of the most beautiful areas of Italy – Catania! It is a city that lies between the Ionian Sea and the steep slopes of Mount Etna. The area around the city is lush and green and the city itself welcomes you with its grand piazzas, wide roads, and fabulous Baroque architecture. Catania has many art treasures, church museums, and Roman ruins well-worthy exploring. It is also connected to the archaeological sites of Agrigento. The Cathedral, dedicated to St. Agata, the city’s patron saint, stands on the site of an 11th-century church.

During a homestay with Mari, you will reside in her newly renovated apartment building, in your own private suite, with bedroom, private bath and kitchen area. But, you will be invited into Mari’s neighboring apartment to immerse in language and daily routines of Mari’s family as much as you like.

Here is Mari to tell you a little more about herself, her teaching background and the accommodations she offers you.

Ciao a tutti! Sono Mari,

I hold degrees in foreign languages and have taught privately as an online tutor and one-to-one tuition for a couple of years now. Before I became a teacher, I worked in other business fields for some years in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Teaching foreign languages has always been my passion and now this dream has taken shape because I have been teaching Italian with great enthusiasm and success to German students as well as German to Italian students.

I encourage and develop confidence within the students, particularly in areas where they may struggle. I take my tutoring work very seriously and pride myself on detailed and encouraging feedback in order to help students progress and develop to the very best of their ability.

Concerning my hobbies, in my spare time, I love swimming, having long walks, cooking, and reading. I’m also interested in learning more and staying updated about environmental issues as well as visiting organic farms. I am very much an advocate of saving our natural resources and the beauty one finds in Sicilia and the area around Catania.

My apartment is located about 10 minutes by car from Catania’s city center. From my apartment, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Mount Etna in the northern direction and the Ionian Sea in the southern direction.

I have a cozy luminous furnished apartment to offer you, with air conditioning and a Wi-Fi connection. It is located on the fourth floor that is accessed by a lift. It consists of two bedrooms, one with a double bed. It also includes a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a laundry room.

In each room, there are separate balconies with a partial sea view plus a small terrace outside the kitchen for outside lunch or dinner.

There is a bus to the city center and the stop is next to the main entrance of a block of flats, or alternatively, in less than five minutes walking distance you can find facilities such bakery, supermarkets a couple of pastry shops, butcher shop, tobacconist, pharmacy a petrol station, a florist, a bar.
