Oggi vorrei presentarvi Paola Testi. Lei è la direttrice della scuola Cultura Italiana ad Arezzo. Insieme organizziamo programmi per studiare l’italiano ad Arezzo dove la vita bella! Paola vi invita personalmente di unirvi con noi questo settembre e spiega quello che abbiamo in mente per tutti voi!
Today I’d like you all to meet Paola Testi. She is the director of the Italian Language school Cultura Italiana in Arezzo. Together we organize Italian language study programs in the city where life is beautiful! Alcuni anni fa ho incontrato Melissa nel web, attraverso il suo sito Studentessa Matta. Affascinata dal entusiasmo di Melissa e dalla sua energia per l’Italia e l’apprendimento della lingua subito ho pensato che insieme avremmo potuto creare qualcosa di veramente interessante ed originale. Poco dopo insieme abbiamo iniziato questa bella avventura!
A couple of years ago I met Melissa through the web, through her blog Studentessa Matta. I was captivated by Melissa’s enthusiasm and energy for Italy and learning the language and I thought that together we could create something really interesting and original. Shortly thereafter we began this great adventure together!
Fin dall’inizio l’idea era di creare un programma che permettesse agli studenti di vivere appieno la vita italiana nelle sue più profonde particolarità e sfumature che di solito non si colgono se si viaggia come un semplice turista. Ed è così che è nato il nostro programma studio ad Arezzo: un’immersione completa nella lingua e nella cultura!
From the beginning, the idea was to create a program that would allow students to fully experience Italian life in its deepest particularities and nuances that usually are not experienced if you travel like a simple tourist. And that’s how our study program was born in Arezzo: a complete immersion in language and culture!
Arezzo non è né troppo grande né troppo piccola, ha quasi 100.000 abitanti ed è quindi molto animata soprattutto in primavera ed estate pur conservando ancora antiche tradizioni.
Arezzo is neither too big nor too small, it has almost 100,000 inhabitants and is therefore very animated especially in the spring and summer while still preserving its ancient traditions.
È un centro molto vivace con numerosi bar, librerie, negozi carini, cinema e, naturalmente, gelaterie dove si possono apprezzare i leggendari gelati italiani. Ma veniamo al nostro programma.
It is a very lively place with numerous bars, bookshops, nice shops, movie theaters and of course gelateria where you can appreciate the legendary Italian ice cream. But…I digress…back to our program!
Il vostro soggiorno ad Arezzo: Tutto ha inizio con una cena di benvenuto il venerdì sera in una trattoria storica nel centro della città: Antica Osteria dell’Agania che grazie alla sua cucina di tradizionale sa conquistare il palato di tutti.
Your stay in Arezzo: It all starts with a welcome dinner on a Friday night in a historic trattoria in the city center: Antica Osteria dell’Agania with its traditional cooking—which will satisfy immediately everyone’s palate.
Secondo la tradizione ogni sabato mattina gli Aretini vanno al mercato di Via Giotto. Anche voi vi mischierete alla gente del luogo per curiosare e frugare tra i banchi della frutta, degli oggetti da cucina, dei vestiti e delle scarpe. Qui potrete gustare un delizioso panino alla porchetta, una schiacciata al prosciutto o dell’ottimo pecorino.
According to tradition, every Saturday morning the Arentini go to the Via Giotto market. You too will mix with the locals to browse and rummage through the fruit vendor’s counters, as well as the vendors of kitchen items, clothes, and shoes. Here you can enjoy a delicious pork sandwich, a pressed ham sandwich, and excellent pecorino cheeses.
Nel pomeriggio del sabato visiterete la Fiera Antiquaria. Più di 500 espositori invadono la città ogni prima domenica del mese e il sabato precedente. Si possono trovare gli oggetti più svariati: mobili e lampadari antichi, oggetti di arredamento, libri, quadri, merletti e tanti altri tesori. Un salto nel passato tra curiosità e oggetti della tradizione.
The same Saturday afternoon you will visit the Arezzo’s Antique Fair. More than 500 exhibitors invade the city every first Saturday and Sunday of the month. You can find the most varied objects: antique furniture and chandeliers, decorating things, books, paintings, lace, and many other treasures. It is a leap into the past and you can find all kinds of odd as well as traditional things.
Al vostro arrivo ad Arezzo intuirete subito che la città si sta preparando a qualcosa di speciale!! Cene, feste, musica, cortei nelle strade: tutto è in fervore per il grande evento: la giostra del Saracino. Un tripudio di luci, colori, suoni, pure emozioni e soprattutto amore per la propria città è quello che si respira nella settimana che precede la giostra che si svolge in Piazza Grande—una delle più belle piazze italiane.
Upon your arrival in Arezzo, you will immediately realize that the city is preparing for something special!! Dinners, parties, music, parades in the streets: there is a heightened expectation for a grand event. In fact, the city is getting ready for the joust of the Saracino. There is a riot of lights, colors, sounds, pure emotion and love for the city and it is all in preparation for this great event that takes place in the Piazza Grande— one of the most beautiful piazzas in all of Italy!
Gli stendardi dei quattro quartieri della città, pronti ad accogliere la sfida, colorano le vie e le piazze del centro storico perché sono loro gli attori principali del torneo, i rappresentanti dei quattro quartieri: Porta Crucifera, dai colori rosso e verde, Porta del Foro, giallo e cremisi, Porta Sant’Andrea, bianco e verde e Porta Santo Spirito, giallo e blu.
The banners of the four districts of the city, proudly wave in a challenge. Their colors decorate the streets and the piazzas of the city, representing the protagonists in the joust the four neighborhoods of the city: Porta Crucifera—red and green, Porta del Foro—yellow and crimson, Porta Sant’Andrea—white and green and Porta Santo Spirito— yellow and blue.
La sera dell’antivigilia è dedicata alla prova generale, in cui tutti i figuranti scendono in Piazza Grande per definire i tempi e i modi della sfilata e dell’entrata in piazza. Subito dopo inizia la prova delle riserve, chiamata “Provaccia”, che termina con la vittoria di un quartiere e una gustosa porchetta che viene fatta arrivare direttamente nella sua sede!
Two days before the joust is the rehearsal, in which the protagonists in the event descend upon the Piazza Grande to rehearse their marching, music, and parading and the jousters with their lances practice running their horses across the square. This event is called the “Provaccia”, the practice joust— which also ends in the victory. The winning team receives tasty pork that is taken immediately to the team neighborhood’s headquarters!
La domenica. Quando tutto è pronto gli animi si scaldano al suono dell’inno del Saracino che accumuna tutti gli aretini, al di là del loro quartiere di appartenenza! Il torneo ha inizio! Un evento unico, in costume, assolutamente da non perdere.
The real fun for us begins on Sunday! When everything is ready, and the crowd’s enthusiasm is further heightened by the hymn of the Joust and it seems all of Arezzo, as well as those from near and far away, have filled the square, we will gather also in the Piazza Grande to watch the Main Event – the Joust! It is a totally unique event, with medieval costumes, absolutely not to be missed.
Il lunedì inizia la scuola!! Vi aspettano lezioni dinamiche e divertenti con i nostri insegnanti qualificati e professionali. Apprendere la lingua non sarà mai stato così divertente!
Then on Monday school will begin! Dynamic and fun lessons await you with our qualified and professional teachers. Learning the language has never been so much fun!
Tra le attività del pomeriggio sicuramente il corso di corso di cucina nella casa di chef Lala sarà un’esperienza divertente. È un’occasione per gustare i migliori piatti della tradizione toscana fatti con ingredienti semplici e genuini magistralmente preparati dalle mani della nostra chef Lalla con il vostro aiuto, ovviamente.
Among the afternoon activities, there will be an entertaining cooking course in the home of chef Lala. It is a chance to taste local Tuscan dishes made with simple genuine ingredients masterfully prepared by the hands of chef Lala, and by your hands of course, too!
Durante il corso si impasta, si stende, si taglia la pasta fatta in casa e si degusta il tutto con dell’ottimo vino toscano. La cena finisce con assaggi di cantucci e vinsanto e tra una chiacchiera in italiano e un bicchiere di limoncello la serata vola via
During the course, you prepare pasta, kneed it, cut it and enjoy it later after it is cooked with an excellent red Tuscan wine. The dinner ends with the sampling of cantucci and vin santo. All the while we will be chatting in Italian. We will finish everything off with a glass of limoncello. You will be amazed how quickly the evening will fly by!
Il programma prevede visite in città ed escursioni nella provincia per conoscere la nostra bellissima campagna ricca di tesori artistici e ambientali. Il fascino di Anghiari, antico borgo medievale arroccato in una piccola collina con una vista mozzafiato sulla Valtiberina rimarrà impresso nelle vostre menti.
This year our program includes visits to several nearby cities Orvieto and Anghieri. You will drink in the views as we drive through our beautiful countryside. It is an area that is rich in art and environmental treasures. The charm of Anghiari, an ancient medieval village perched on a small hill with a breathtaking view of the Valtiberina will remain forever etched in your mind.
Per chiudere la settimana in bellezza una degustazione a Podere Pomaio. Pomaio è un agriturismo nel cuore sella campagna aretina, un posto di cui non puoi non innamorati uno spettacolo per gli occhi e per il palato. Vino biologico, olio di oliva e prodotti tipici di alta qualità insieme ad un magico sottofondo musicale chiuderanno la vostra vacanza e poi un grande abbraccio, saluti e lacrime.
We will end the week enjoying the beauty of Podere Pomaio for a wine tasting. Pomaio is an agriturismo and winery in the heart of the Arezzo countryside, a place where you can’t help but fall in love with the view and the wine. It is a feast for the eyes and the palate. At Pomaio they make organic wine, olive oil, and typical Tuscan products of high quality. We will enjoy a fabulous dinner with a view that is magical. In this way, we will celebrate the completion of our week together. We will toast one another, hug and kiss…and yes there will be a few tears because we hate saying goodbye!
