Rocket Italian: Recensione – Review of Online Audio Course

Come già sapete, il motivo per cui io scrivo il blog è per avere una ragione per usare la lingua ogni giorno e di raccontare tutte le cose dell’Italia. Se siete come me, cercate sempre modi nuovi per migliorare il vostro apprendimento della lingua. Quindi quando io scopro qualcosa davvero interessante che mi aiuta ad imparare la lingua, sono lieta di condividerlo con voi. Alcune settimane fa ho trovato un nuovo programma chiamato Rocket Italian. Sono entusiasta degli caratteristiche del programma e penso che sarà uno strumento utile per gli studenti d’Italiano.

As you know, the purpose of this blog is to give me an outlet to use Italian every day and talk about all things Italian. If you are like me you are on the constant lookout for new ways to improve your Italian language skills. So when I come across something that I think is really great or break-through for language learning, I am happy to share it with you all! Just a few weeks ago I discovered a new online program called Rocket Italian I am enthusiastic about the program’s unique features and think it will be a beneficial tool for Italian language learners.

Ho iniziato ad imparare Italiano dodici anni fa. Essendo una mamma a tempo pieno e lavorando per conto mio non avevo tempo per frequentare un corso insegnato da un madrelingua dove avrei potuto sentito la lingua parlata direttamente. Invece ho usato libri e audio tape, ma non avevo un modo per correggere la pronuncia. Se avessi Rocket Italian quando ho iniziato ad imparare, avrei avuto un vantaggio che mi avrebbe messo in avanti della curva di apprendimento perché questo corso mette insieme un modo unico per registrare la voce che permette lo studente di ascoltarsi e paragonarsi a un madrelingua.

I started learning Italian about twelve years ago. Being a full-time mom and running my own business I didn’t have time to attend language classes taught by a teacher where I could hear the language spoken directly. I relied instead upon books and tapes but didn’t have a way to correct my pronunciation and intonation. If I had had the Rocket Italian online Audio course when I first started learning Italian, it would have been such an advantage and put me way ahead of the language learning curve because this program incorporates a unique audio recording experience that allows the student to hear and speak the language and compare their recordings to that of a native Italian speaker.

Rocket Italiane è compreso delle conversazioni tra due madrelingua con un guida che parla inglese. C’è un discorso amichevole tra i guidi, qualche volta un po’ banale e sciocco, ma anche rilassata e casual. La prima volta che li senti, i discorsi sono ripetuti e suddivisi in brevi frasi. Il tuo guida spiega come funziona la grammatica e perché alcune frasi sono usate. Lui dà anche altri modi di dire la stessa cosa e altre parole che hanno lo stesso significato come quelle che sono usate nel dialogo. Mi piace quest’elemento del programma. Come sapete ci sono tanti modi di esprimere qualcosa e mi ha sempre dato fastidio che in altri corsi non hanno spiegato questo. Dopo aver ascoltato al discorso di Rocket Italian qualche volta, e dato ampio tempo per esercitare il dialogo, poi avrai l’opportunità di registrare la tua voce per paragonarla al quella del madrelingua nel sezione di “Practice”.

Each Rocket Italian course is based on conversations between two native speakers with an English-speaking guide. There is a friendly exchange amongst the guides, at times a little corny, but still relaxed and casual. The first time the dialogues are repeated and broken down into short phrases. Your guide explains how grammar works and why certain tenses are used. He also provides alternative ways or word phrases that you could substitute into the sentence and have it mean the same thing. I really liked this aspect of the program. As you know there are so many ways of expressing the same thing and it always bugged me in other audio courses that they don’t point that out. After you have listened to the Rocket Italian dialogue several times, and given ample time to practice it yourself, you are then given the opportunity to record your own voice to compare yourself to the native speaker’s voice in the “Practice Section”.

Secondo me, questo è la parte migliorare del corso. È possibile abbinare la tua registrazione per la registrazione del docente e ripetere quante volte vuoi, per correggere il passo, il ritmo e l’intonazione. È come avere un’insegnante di linguaggio a disposizione per perfezionare il tuo accento italiano!

In my opinion, this is the best part of the course. You can match your recording to the teacher’s recording and repeat it over and over to correct your pitch, rhythm and intonation. It is like having our very own language teacher available to perfect your Italian accent!

Ho scoperto Rocket Italian quando la gente di Rocket Italiano mi si avvicinò e mi ha chiesto di fare una recensione del loro corso. Mi hanno dato accesso ai tutti i livelli dei corsi che offrono: Level 1 – Rocket Italian Premium, Level 2 Rocket Italian Premium Plus, e Level 3 Rocket Italian Platinum. Ho cominciato con Level 1 – Rocket Italian Premium e ho dilettato un po’ con le lezioni elementari e poi ho saltato in avanti al Level 3 Rocket Italian Platinum. Ogni livello del corso è suddiviso in tre sezioni: conversazione (in cui si ascolta conversazioni audio), Lingua e Cultura (in cui si ascoltano le espressioni e si conosce la cultura) e Survival Kit (in cui si ascolta e si impara nuovo vocabolario). Sto ancora lavorando con il programma e devo ammettere che ho trovato alcuni piccoli errori, qualche cosa tradotta male e un paio di registrazioni che non si allineano con le loro controparti scritte. Tuttavia, dopo averne informato la gente a Rocket Italian ha immediatamente corretto gli errori. Sono impegnati a fare un prodotto di qualità e pronti a migliorare il loro programma.

I found out about Rocket Italian when the folks at Rocket Italian approached me and asked me to review their online language course. They gave me access to the three levels of Italian courses they offer: Level 1 – Rocket Italian Premium, Level 2 Rocket Italian Premium Plus, and Level 3 Rocket Italian Platinum. I started with Level 1 Rocket Italian and dabbled a bit with the elementary lessons and then jumped forward to Level 3 Rocket Italian. Each course level is broken into three sections: Conversation (in which you listen to Interactive Audio Conversations), Language and Culture (in which you listen to expressions and learn about culture), and Survival Kit (in which you listen to and learn new vocabulary). After completing an audio lesson you take audio-based quizzes and then you rate your own progress. I have been working through the Level 3 Rocket Italian Platinum and I have to admit that I have found a few errors, several mistranslated things, and a couple of recordings that didn’t align with their written counterparts. However, after notifying the folks at Rocket Italian they immediately set about to correct the errors. They are committed to putting out a quality product and are ready to improve their program.

Rocket Italian è come avere un laboratorio linguistico, con un istruttore italiano che rafforza il vocabolario, la grammatica e l’intonazione. Se siete come me, ogni giorno imparate nuovo vocabolario leggendo libri, giornali e ascoltando radio e televisione, ma se non lo usate, è facile dimenticarlo. Rocket Italian è meraviglioso perché rafforza non solo parole e frasi, ma incorpora i suoni italiani nel cervello. L’esperienza interattiva è più coinvolgente e divertente che ripetendo discorsi unilaterali come in altri corsi di CD. Io do Rocket Italian due pollici in su!

Rocket Italian is like having your own language lab, complete with an Italian instructor, to help reinforce vocabulary, grammar, and intonation. If you are like me, every day you pick up new vocabulary from books, newspapers and from radio and films but, if you don’t use it or hear it often enough it goes right out the window and you forget it. Rocket Italian is wonderful because it reinforces not only words and phrases, but it embeds the Italian sounds in your brain. The interactive audio experience I find is much more effective and engaging than just learning from a book or scrambling to repeat one-sided audio dialogues, as with other audio CDs.  I give Rocket Italian two thumbs up!
