Hai Voluto la bicicletta. Adesso Pedala!

Adesso pedala!”

So… a funny thing happened the other day. After happily writing a blog for a couple of years now, I now find myself the mistress also of a podcast. I’m not sure exactly how it all got underway, but it tracks back to my meeting up with Cher Hale of the Iceberg Project last fall. Cher and I made an instant connection because we share a similar energy and passion for learning Italian. Before I knew it, we were chatting away and recording “Le Pazze Ragazze Podcast”. Life takes interesting twists & turns and Cher’s is now drifting off in the direction of Mandarine Chinese, leaving me with the crazy possibility of continuing an Italian pod on my own. At first the thought of going solo was a bit intimidating…but then as the Italians say: L’hai voluta la bici? Adesso pedala! You wanted the bike…well go pedal it!

So, that is exactly what I’m doing. I am hoping to stay the course and not fall off my trusty, if not a bit wobbly bike. I have made a few changes to the podcast, starting with the name. Now it is called “ Tutti Matti per l’Italiano!”. I plan on producing shorter episodes which will feature clips of native Italian speakers. During my recent trip to Italy I made many of recordings of lots of local people. I won’t be translating all the speaker’s dialogues as I have done in the past, but will post information, images and interesting vocabulary to accompany each podcast on the blog. If you have any specific questions regarding the native speaker’s dialogues feel free to send me a message as melissa@studentessamatta.com.

In this brand spanking new podcast, that I call “Postcards from Lucca” you will hear my friend Silvia Ceriegi, who lives near Pisa and who writes the blog Trippando. She introduces herself while we drink a “shakerato” – iced coffee – in Lucca’s Roman anfiteatro. Listen up as Silvia uses the word “ganzissimo” which is a very Tuscan expression and means “very cool!”

Next we hear from Antonella, one of the teachers at Lucca Italian School. Antonella took us on a walking tour inside the city walls of Lucca to show us some interesting places and I recorded her talking about a famous Pasticceria in Piazza San Michele called Taddeucci. She tells us about a special type of dolce they make only in Lucca called “buccellato” as well as a special drink called “biadina”.

Last but not least, you will hear the musical stylings of Mario, a charming local Lucchese man, known by all in Lucca, who frequents the anfiteatro in the afternoons. Maura is a real character! Check out this lovely little youtube video also of Mario!

Pedaliamo… e pratichiamo l’Italiano! Buon ascolto! Let’s keep pedaling… and practicing Italian! Happy listening!
