Laura che crea!

Vorrei presentarvi una cara amica, Laura Ghezzi. Potreste riconoscere il suo bel viso visto che è già apparsa un paio di volte sul Matta blog e nelle foto dei miei gruppi linguistici ad Arezzo. Questo è perché Laura è un’artista di talento e collaboro con lei per offrirvi esperienze artistiche durante i miei programmi ad Arezzo.

I’d like to introduce you to a very dear friend of mine — Laura Ghezzi. You might just recognize her lovely face as she has appeared a couple of times already on the Matta blog and in photos of my language groups in Arezzo. That is because Laura is a talented artist and she and I collaborate with her to bring you art experiences during my Italian language immersion programs.

La prima volta che Laura ed io ci siamo incontrate, ci siamo subito “innamorati.” È appassionata di arte e creazione, così come della sua città natale. L’anno scorso il mio gruppo ha imparato come si fa affreschi alla maniera dei vecchi maestri nel suo studio in via Bicchieraia, a pochi passi da Piazza Grande, dove troveresti la Loggia di Vasari e la scene della giostra per cui Arezzo e nota.

The first time Laura and I met one another, we instantly “fell in love.” She is passionate about art and creating as she is about her adored hometown of Arezzo! Last year my group learned how to create frescos in the manner of the old masters in her studio in via Bicchieraia, just a couple of steps away from Piazza Grande where you will find Vasari’s Loggia as well as the scene of Arezzo’s famous jousting festival.

Laura è un’artista e insegna pittura agli studenti, e lavora anche per promuovere l’arte e mestieri artiginale ad Arezzo. È uno dei fondatori della Staffetta Associazione Culturale. Insieme ad altri artisti e artigiani, Laura Folli e Marco Conti, per citarne alcuni altri, lavora per mostrare le arti tradizionali per tenerle in vita per le generazioni future. Durante il fine settimana potete visitare l’artigiani in via Bicchieraia per vedere artigiani che fabbricano gioielli, scarpe, oggetti in metallo, e tessuti, oltre a una varietà di dipinti. Troverete anche gli insoliti oggetti di cartapesta di Laura, e disegni e sculture multimediali.  

Laura is an artist and teaches painting to students, and she also works to promote art and artisan crafts in Arezzo. She is a founding member of La Staffetta Associazione Culturale. She along with fellow artists and artisans, Laura Folli and Marco Conti, to name just a few, work to showcase traditional arts to keep them alive for future generations. On weekends you can visit the artisans in via Bicchieraia to see craftsmen making jewelry, shoes, metal crafts, textiles, and loomed goods, as well as a variety of paintings. You will also find Laura’s unusual paper maché objects, and multi-media designs and sculptures.

Sono lieta anche di essere inclusa in questo gruppo di artisti! L’estate scorsa sono diventata una parte di questa collaborazione e in questo modo posso promuovere e vendere i miei romanzi che mettono anche in mostra le arti e l’artigianato di Arezzo al pubblico. La Staffetta per me è ora una seconda casa ad Arezzo, e anch’io ho uno spazio nello studio in via Bicchieraia 23, e potete trovare i miei libri lì tutto l’anno. E questo mese, potete trovarli nello stand della Staffetta nel mercatino di Natale in Piazza Grande. Laura mi ha anche aiutato ad organizzare una fantastica presentazione del mio romanzo tradotto in italiano “Il risveglio di Isabella,” alla casa di Ivan Bruschi lo scorso settembre. È stata una serata indimenticabile!

I am pleased also to be included in this group of artists! Last summer, I became a member of the group and in this way, can promote and sell my novels that also showcase the arts and artisan crafts in Arezzo to the public. La Staffetta is now my second home in Arezzo, and I too have studio space in via Bicchieraia 23, and you can find my books there all year long. And this month, you can find them in the Staffetta booth in the Christmas market in Piazza Grande. Laura also helped to organize a fantastic presentation of my novel translated into Italian “Il risveglio di Isabella,” at the home of Ivan Bruschi last September. A night I will treasure for the rest of my life!

Quella sera, Laura mi ha regalato una delle sue adorabili creazioni: un’opera d’arte multimediale di Isabella de’ Medici! Ovviament ero molto felice . Ancora una piccola nota: al momento, Laura G e Laura F sono coinvolte in un progetto per abbellire Arezzo con murales che spiegano il suo patrimonio. Qui le Laure sono in azione creando i pannelli da montare nel parcheggio di Baldaccio alla periferia di Arezzo.

Just another little note: At the moment, Laura G and Laura F are involved in a project to beautify Arezzo with murals that explain its heritage. Here the Lauras are in action creating the panels to be mounted in the Baldaccio parking facility on the outskirts of Arezzo.
