italki.com is a language learning social network that connects students and language teachers. You can find language exchange partners, practice speaking a foreign language with native speakers as well as schedule on-line lessons with a native teacher. italki promotes social learning; users are able to make friends for language exchange, ask questions about language learning, write essays and receive corrections, and enter into language discussions. These features depend on responses from native speakers that are also members of the italki community. Skype is used as a means of meeting and communicating with others on the italki site.
Membership on italki is free, but registration is required to contact other members. Payment is required to schedule lessons with online teachers.
There are two kinds of instruction available. Teaching by Professional Teachers who possess a degree or certificate in education or Informal Tutoring, individuals who are knowledgeable and passionate about teaching their native language.
italki users are able to search for a freelance teacher, schedule and pay for language lessons through the site.
italki teachers are able to create a profile, and build a personal reputation.
