Oh, Mio Dio! Jude Law as the Young Pope!

Dopo aver suonato la colonna sonora di cui sopra per The Young Pope… Non pensate che sia fantastico!? Devo dirvi che sono molto incuriosita dalla serie televisiva su HBO del regista italiano Paolo Sorrentino. Lo spettacolo ha tutto — intrighi, arte, costumi favolosi, personaggi ben definiti, musica — persino un canguro. Si può quasi sentire l’odore dell’incenso all’interno di San Pietro e respirare l’aroma delle siepi di boss nei giardini papali.

After playing the above intro music theme to The Young Pope… Don’t you think that it is fantastic!? I have to tell you I am greatly intrigued by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino’s HBO TV series. The show has it all — intrigue, art, fabulous costumes, well-defined characters, music — even a kangaroo. You can almost smell the incense inside Saint Peter’s, and breath in the aroma of the boxwood hedges in the Papal gardens.

Alla fine, è uno spettacolo sulla fede. È uno spettacolo che si fa pensare. Mi piace la televisione intelligente e sono d’accordo con il seguente comment lasciato su Youtube.

In the end, it is a show about faith. It is a show that makes you think. I happen to like intelligent TV and have to agree with the following Youtuber comment:

Questo spettacolo è un capolavoro da ogni punto di vista, dalla Colonna Sonora alla fotografia, I dialoghi, alle recitazioni degli attori. Remongo senza parole alla fine di ogni puntata. Potrebbe essere considerate controverso, ma non tanto quanto le persone potrebbero indovinare da questo trailer. È molto più “pulito” di quanto pensi. Sinceramente credo che sia un’opera d’arte e tutti nel mondo dovrebbero guardarla.

This show is a masterpiece from every point of view, from the soundtrack to the photography, the dialogues, the actors’ performances. I remain speechless at the end of every episode. It might be considered controversial, but not as much as people may be guessing from this trailer. It’s much more ‘clean’ than you think. I honestly believe it’s a work of art, and everyone in the world should watch it.

A differenza della televisione “tipica” questo spettacolo mi lascia senza sapere cosa accadrà dopo. Jude Law è assolutamente affascinante nel ruolo. Non l’ho mai visto così prima di ora.

Unlike your run-of-the-mill show, this show leaves me guessing as to what will happen next. Jude Law is utterly fascinating in its role. I’ve never seen him like this before.

Ecco un sinossi / Here is a synopsis.

Giovane e affascinante, appena eletto Pio XIII, alias Lenny Belardo, è il primo papa americano nella storia. La sua ascensione sembre essere il risultato di una strategia mediatica semplice ed efficace attuata dal collegio dei cardinali. In Vaticano, tuttavia, la saggezza prevalente è che I leder della chiesa hanno scelto una figura misteriosa come guida. E Pio XIII si rivela il più misterioso e contraddittorio di tutti. Quando Belardo inizia il suo regno, è ostinatamente resistente agli amministratori del Vaticano, facendo affidamento invece su Suor Maria come sua principale consigliera. Young and charming, newly elected Pius XIII, aka Lenny Belardo, is the first American Pope in history. His ascension appears to be the result of a simple, effective media strategy implemented by the College of Cardinals. In the Vatican, however, the prevailing wisdom is the church’s leaders have chosen a mysterious figure as their guiding force. And Pius XIII proves to be the most mysterious and contradictory of them all. As Belardo begins his reign, he is stubbornly resistant to the Vatican stewards, instead relying on Sister Mary to serve as his chief adviser. While she urges him to focus on leading his billion followers, the young pope shows little interest in making himself known, either to the College of Cardinals or to the masses. The 10-episode drama series stars Jude Law in the title role and Diane Keaton as Sister Mary, a nun from the U.S. now living in Vatican City.

Per la cronaca, il quotidiano Vaticano dopo un lungo silenzio dall’esordio della serie, ha finalmente fatto commenti sul film “Il giovane papa” dall a regista Sorrentino, dando alla serie televisiva recensioni generalmente positive nonostante ciò che ha chiamato “frivolo,” “caustic,” e “grottesco” come ha dipinto il Vaticano. Ma, nella sua recensione, Juan Manuel de Prada, un intellettuale spagnolo, scoprì che all’interno delle lamentele anticlericali di Sorrenti c’era anche una “docile ammirazione per la chiesa.”

For the record, The Vatican newspaper after a yearlong silence since the series debuted, weighed in on director Sorrentino’s “The Young Pope,” giving the television series generally positive reviews despite what it called the “frivolous,” ”caustic” and “grotesque” way it painted the Vatican. But, In his review, Juan Manuel de Prada, a Spanish intellectual, found that inside Sorrentino’s anti-clerical rants, there was also a “docile admiration for the church.”
