Rest in Peace Renato Bialetti Ashes Buried in Giant Moka Coffee Pot

By Melissa Muldoon
Wednesday, April 20th, 2016

Earlier this year the coffee pot king — Renato Bialetti passed away. He received a rather unusual send off! The man who turned an aluminium coffee pot into a global icon had his ashes placed inside one. For the rest of eternity he will be at one with his revolutionary product. Although he didn’t invent the octagonal shaped Moka coffee pot, he is the man credited with making it famous and the household word it is today, not just in Italy but around the world as well…and well, in my kitchen as well. I confess I have quite a collection of his coffee pots in every size and color!

The children of Renato, Alessandra, Antonello and Alfonso were the one who decided to place their father’s remains in giant stove-top espresso maker. The service was conducted in his hometown of Casale Corte Cerro in the north-easter region of Piemonte. During the church service the coffee pot urn was blessed by the priest. Renato was then taken to the family tomb and laid to rest next to his beloved wife Elia.

Renato dedicated his life’s work to making the Moka coffee pot a household must-have and giving families worldwide the opportunity to make and drink quality coffee at home. I is a simple, elegant and easy solution! This was after his father, Alfonso, secured the patent for the design in 1933 which he then turned into a success story with 330 million Bialetti pots sold worldwide.

In Italiano lui è chiamato “Omino coi baffi”.

The Bialetti Coffee Pot logo features the cute little guy with the big mustache. In Italian he is referred to as “Omino coi baffi”. In my house in my kitchen, he is always a welcome site in the morning…and probably the only person I want to chat with before I’ve had my first sip of espresso!

You will be missed Renato! Thank you for making the Italian Bialetti Coffee pot so popular. Now a part of my morning routine. Hearing the coffee boiling as it bubbles on the stove fills my morning with music and fills the air with the aroma of energy creative possibilities!!
