Chris Botti suona: Italia e Con te Partiro – San Francisco Symphony Hall

Sembra che abbiamo un’appuntamento fissato con il signor Botti in questo periodo dell’anno. Sta diventando piuttosto una tradizione passare un giorno a San Francisco per vedere tutte le decorazioni e la pista di pattinaggio che fanno in Union Square, così come l’albero gigante – probabilmente il più grande albero di Natale che abbia mai visto nella mia vita, tutto decorato splendidmente con le decorazioni d’oro e rosse. Un mio amico italiano mi ha detto dopo aver visto le mie foto su facebook: “In America tutto è così grande!” Sì, lui ha ragione. Siamo un Paese di grandi spazi, grandi macchine, grandi case, grandi visioni, grandi sogni…e grande musica!

Seems we have a standing date with Mr. Botti at this time of the year. It is becoming quite the holiday tradition to spend a day in San Francisco to see the decorations and the ice skating rink they put up in Union Square as well as the “gianourmous” holiday tree – probably the biggest Christmas tree I have ever seen in my life all decorated to the max with gold and red ornaments. An Italian friend said to me after he seeing my photos on Facebook: In America EVERYTHING is big! Yep. He is pretty spot on. We are a country of big spaces, big cars, big houses, big visions, big dreams, and big music.

Ieri è stato bello prendere una pausa con mio marito. Invece di lavorare abbiamo girato per i marciapiedi del centro. Abbiamo dato una sbirciatina dentro il grande magazzino di Macy’s e poi abbiamo preso un caffè all’Emporio Rulli dove ci siamo seduti a guardare la gente e i pattinatori e semplicemente a fare una pausa per goderci l’atmosfera natalizia della città. A mio parere è una città molto particolare a cui nessun’altra città può paragonarsi. Qui le persone che si incontrano per strada sono in realtà molto amichevoli e vi salutano con un sorriso e parole gentili. E no, non è solo lo spirito della festa e le grandi decorazioni, penso che sia così tutto l’anno.

Yesterday it was great to take a break with my husband. Instead of work, we wandered around the city center. We took a peek into Macy’s and we had coffee at Emporio Rulli where we sat down to watch the people and the skaters and simply take a breath to enjoy the city’s holiday spirit. In my opinion, this is a very unique city and no other city quite compares to her charms. Here the people you meet on the street are actually very friendly and they greet you with a smile and kind words. And no it isn’t just the holiday spirit and the big holiday decorations talking, I think it is like this all year long.

Dato che sono la studentessa Matta, non importa dove vado, mi sembra di poter sempre trovare un pezzo d’Italia… e ieri non era diverso! Il mio radar italiano è sempre attivo. A pochi passi da Union Square ho scoperto l’albergo “Villa Florence” e nell’ingresso dell’albergo c’era questo bellissimo dipinto, molto suggestivo di Firenze. Così naturalmente è stato proprio necessario scattare una foto di me davanti al Duomo!

Being the crazy Matta gal that I am, no matter where I go, it seems I can always find a piece of Italy… and yesterday was no different. My Italian radar is always active. Just off Union Square, I discovered the “Villa Florence” hotel and at the entrance of the hotel was this beautiful painting, very evocative of Florence. So of course it was imperative that I have my picture taken in front of the “duomo” .

Quest’anno siamo stati più fortunati rispetto allo scorso anno, quando pioveva così tanto che è stato difficile trovare parcheggio e abbiamo perso una mezz’ora del concerto. (Ecco un link al post dell’anno scorso) Questa volta eravamo in perfetto orario e ai nostri posti in attesa del primo bellissimo accordo del signor Botti. Il primo accordo, il secondo accordo infatti tutti gli accordi erano meravigliosi. Lui non ci ha deluso. È stato un concerto “jazz” indimenticabile. Ad un certo punto lui ha lasciato il palco ed è sceso per raggiungere il pubblico nella sala. Era così vicino a noi che avremmo potuto toccarlo ed è stato possibile vedere il suo ben suonata tromba.

This year we were more fortunate than last year when it rained so hard and it took us hours to find a parking space so that we missed the first half-hour of the concert. This time we were ahead of the game and in our seats waiting for the first musical chords to be struck by Mr. Botti. The first chord, the second chord…in fact, all the chords were wonderful. He didn’t disappoint us. It was an incredible jazz concert. At a certain point, he left the stage and joined the audience. He was so close to us we could have touched him and it was possible to see up close his well-used trumpet.

Non c’è un modo migliore per rendere qualcuno di buon umore o nello spirito di festa che ascoltare questo musicista di talento suonare la sua tromba. E come vi ho detto, posso trovare un po’ d’Italia ovvunque io vada! Chris ha anche incluso nel suo programma le canzoni “Italia” e “Con te partiro”. Ecco un regalo di Natale in anticipo per il vostro divertimento!

There isn’t a better way to put someone in a good mood or the holiday spirit than to listen to this talented musician play his trumpet. As I said before, I can find a bit of Italy wherever I go!
