Getting married in the time of Covid-19

Nonostante il mondo intero sia rinchiuso in quarantena, e molte routine e programmi vengano rinviati e cancellati, la mia famiglia trova un momento per festeggiare un evento importante nella nostra vita.

Despite the entire world being locked up in quarantine, and many routines and plans being postponed and canceled, my family finds a moment to celebrate a momentous event in our lives. 

Oggi mio figlio
si sta per sposare.

Today my son is getting married.

Ci stiamo unendo al matrimonio tramite
una trasmissione live streaming di Facebook.

We are joining the celebration via Facebook Live Streaming.

Tempi difficili richedono soluzioni interessanti e creative. Gli sposi saranno uniti da un ministro, alla presenza di due testimoni — e la famiglia li guarderà da lontano. Siamo sparsi in tutto il mondo — Austin, San Francisco, Vancouver, Montana, South Carolina, India, Europa — eppure tramite Internet, possiamo ancora assistere al matrimonio.

Tough times call for interesting and creative solutions. The wedding couple will be united by a minister, in the presence of just two witnesses — and close family looking on from afar. We are scattered around the world — Austin, San Francisco, Vancouver, Montana, South Carolina, India, Europe — and yet via the internet, we can still participate in the ceremony.

L’anno prossimo — stessa data, stessa ora — festeggeremo tutti —di persona — insieme.

Next year — same date, same time — we will all be celebrating in person with everyone assembled together.

Ci saranno musica, torte, fiori e balli — e soprattutto — ci saranno abbracci e baci. Non dovremo mantenere una distanza di 6 piedi. Non temeremo di viaggiare a vedere I propri cari. Non vivremo nella costante paura della malattia e della contaminazione.

There will be music, cake, flowers, and dancing—and most importantly— there will be hugging and kissing. We will not have to keep a distance of 6 feet. We will not fear traveling to see loved ones. We will not be living in constant fear of disease and contamination.

Il mondo è davvero pazzo in questo momento—ma siamo tutti insieme in questo.

The world is a crazy place right now—
but we are all in this together.

È davvero impressionante capire che, per la prima volta, contemporaneamente, stiamo tutti vivendo la stessa cosa esatta. Ognuno di noi in tutto il mondo sta affrontando questa crisi. Siamo statu tutti toccata dalla pandemia, essendo confinanti nelle case, nella carenza di cibo e nella miriade di emozioni di noia, paura, frustrazione e disperazione. L’esperienza è umiliante e unita allo stesso tempo.

It is quite awe-inspiring to realize that, for the first time, simultaneously, we are all experiencing the same exact thing. Each and every one of us around the globe are dealing with this crisis. We have all been touched by the pandemic — being confined to homes, shortages of food, and the myriad emotions of boredom, fear, frustration, and despair. The experience is humbling and uniting at the same time.

Sopravviveremo a questo momento surreale e saremo più forti per questo.

We will survive this surreal moment
and we will be stronger because of it.

Mentre guardo intorno a me, ai miei vicini e li salute dall’altra parte della stradaa, mentre leggo i post di Facebook dagli amici in Italia e in tutto il mondom e mentre sono in contatto con la mia famiglia, mi rendo conto che c’è ancora molto amore in questo mondo.

As I look around me, at my neighbors and wave to them from across the street, as I read Facebook posts from friends in Italy and around the world and as I am in contact with my family — I realize there is a lot of love still left in this world.

Ci sono così tante cose di cui essere grati. Oggi festeggio il fatto di avere una nuova figlia! La prima!

There are so many things to be grateful for. Today, I celebrate the fact that I have a new daughter! My first!
