I had the extreme pleasure today to visit Rondine I had the extreme pleasure today to visit Rondine Cittadella della Pace to hear Paola Cortellesi speak about violence against women, her films, and pearls of wisdom like “irony is part of living together. It is the laughter that breaks the tension, the lightness that makes room for understanding. It’s also a way of saying: you’re not alone in your conflicts.” Rondine Cittadella della Pace is a unique peace building center in Tuscany that brings together young people from conflict and post-conflict zones around the world to live, study, and dialogue together. Its core mission is to transform the concept of “the enemy” through shared daily life, education, and personal encounter. By fostering mutual understanding and using conflict as a tool for growth, Rondine cultivates future leaders committed to reconciliation and global peace. In a time marked by violent polarizations, visible and invisible wars, and a profound crisis in relationships — even intimate ones — the testimony of the the Cortellesi — actress and director carries even greater weight. Because she reminds us that conflict can be inhabited, that the enemy can become human, that irony can break the silence, and that, perhaps, peace truly is an art. And like all forms of art, it needs to be cultivated.
