Get to know Anna, who offers a homestay in Pavia in Lombardy.

For several years, Anna has opened her home to foreign language students that come to Italy to immerse themselves in Italian culture and improve their language skills. Get to know Giuliana, who will teach you Italian during your homestay with Anna.

Giuliana, a retired, experienced Italian teacher and friend of Anna’s, will provide morning Italian lessons. She has taught Italian for many years, in Florence (her native city), in Milan at the University of Pavia, and in her own school in Pavia. She has taught students from 74 different countries! Giuliana is also the author of textbooks for foreign learners of Italian. Giuliana and Anna have been working together since they first met and found out they were both fond of sharing Italian culture with people worldwide.


Pavia is a tranquil city near the northern lakes of Italy set on the banks of the Ticino River.

Pavia is a tranquil city in Lombardy, in northern Italy, set on the banks of the Ticino River and close to Milan, the Italian capital of fashion, design, and economy.

Pavia is known for its stunning architecture and historical landmarks. You must visit the Duomo di Pavia, a beautiful cathedral dating back to the 15th century, and the Ponte Coperto. This picturesque covered bridge spans the Ticino River. The heart of the town life is the central Piazza Vittoria; people meet there for an aperitivo.

Did you know Pavia is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe? The University of Pavia has been around since the 14th century and has produced some of the greatest minds in history! If you’re a foodie, you’re in luck – Pavia is famous for its delicious local cuisine, including mouth-watering risotto dishes and scrumptious cakes and pastries like the famous torta paradiso. Are you fond of hiking? Pavia is also crossroads for several pilgrimage path such as Via Francigena, Via Francisca, Via degli Abati, and it is common to see pilgrims cross Pavia on their way to Rome. Anna will show you paths you can safely run across in a few hours from her house.

But perhaps the best thing about Pavia is its friendly and welcoming people. You’ll feel right at home in this charming city and be greeted with warm smiles and open arms.

Meet Anna’s family.

Anna lives in Pavia with her husband, Marco, an engineer, and their two daughters, Laura and Elena, who are 23 and 21 years old. Laura has an artistic spirit; she lives between Pavia and Florence and works as a film animator in a studio. Elena is an Economics student in Milan.

The whole family loves sports: skiing in winter, kayaking in summer, and they make long walks along the river in all seasons. They have a lot of friends and a big family they use to share free time and meals with.


Chiara, Anna’s sister & Anna their mamma

Chiara, Anna’s sister, lives in Milan. She has been working as a teacher of Italian as a second language for more than 20 years, now teaching in an International British School. She is interested in social issues, and, as a side job, she is a grant writer for an NGO. Chiara is a sporty person, a lover of nature and the mountains, where she loves to spend her holidays. If you want to experience the Italian Alps, visit Chiara’s homestay in the small village of Vilminore di Scalve-Bergamo. You can also think about spending some days in Vilminore after the week in Pavia.

Anna’s home in Pavia is in the Ticinello neighborhood, a short distance from the University of Pavia. It is a five-minute walk from the train and bus stations, by which you can travel to Milan in just half an hour. Anna’s building has a portineria (doorman) and an elevator.

The apartment is well-appointed and features a small kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and stovetop. The living area has a comfortable sofa, TV, dining table, and sleeping corner with a double bed. The apartment has a spacious balcony accommodating a table, sun curtains, and chairs.

The apartment is air conditioned and is equipped with a washing machine and Wifi. Towels and sheets are provided, as well as food for breakfast and a snack.

The sleeping area can have a double bed or two single beds.

What is included in Anna’s
homestay in Milano

Each program will be tailored to the needs and interests of the student.

* Anna will pick you up from the train station.

* 2 hours of Italian morning lessons per day with Giuliana

* Anna will prepare delicious food for breakfasts you will have in your apartment

* house cleaning in the middle of the week

* dinner or lunch are shared with Anna’s family.

* If you like, you can cook with Anna, learn the secrets of the Italian kitchen, and she will help you create your cookbook of Italian recipes!

During a homestay with Anna, you can take long walks (or runs for more athletic individuals) along the river Ticino, just 200 meters from Anna’s house. La via Francigena passes right by her house. The train station is a short walkable distance, and you can go to Milan in just half an hour by train. Anna organizes fun activities — aperitivi, theatrical events, and meetups with her friends in which you can participate. Or you can relax and enjoy an evening with Anna’s family watching TV or cooking a meal with Anna. On weekends Anna organizes immersive activities depending on the season, like picnics along the banks of the river, to help you immerse in the language and culture. Anna experienced the nearby tracts of Via Francigena, Via Francisca, Via degli Abati, and other tens of walks and will be glad to be your guide and give directions to run across yourself.

The homestay package does not include paid experiences (restaurants, public transport tickets, museum entrance, paid shows, etc.).
