Day 4 at the Villa: Dipingiamo in italiano! This Day 4 at the Villa: Dipingiamo in italiano! This morning we picked up our paintbrushes for a watercolor lesson with Laura Ghezzi... and yes, we did it ALL IN ITALIAN! Colors, brushes, techniques, questions, conversation... tutto in italiano! Everyone found their inner Italian artist while putting their language skills to work. Because Italian immersion doesn’t always happen in a classroom.  My friend and colleague Beatrice, my Homestay partner in Lecco on Lago di Como, was in Arezzo for a conference and came to find me!
 Such a joyful reunion, and so much fun introducing her to my Villa group! And this isn’t goodbye… I’ll see her again in just a few weeks when I head north to Milano and Lago di Como! ‘
Our Matta & Cultura Italiana Villa group traded th Our Matta & Cultura Italiana Villa group traded the Tuscan countryside for la città di Arezzo for an afternoon! 🇮🇹 With Gianmarco leading the way, we wandered through the historic center, visited the Duomo, and talked about Guido Monaco, the Arezzo-born monk credited with developing the musical notation system that eventually gave us do, re, mi, fa, sol, la. 🎶 From there, we slowly made our way down to Vasari’s Church in Piazza Badia and then on to Piazza Grande, where we shared a little of Arezzo’s history, traditions, and, of course, the excitement of the Giostra del Saracino. We finished the evening the Italian way: around the table at Acquavitae, enjoying dinner, conversation, and local wines. 🍷 Italian lessons aren’t always found in a classroom. Sometimes they unfold while walking through a city, hearing its stories, and sharing a meal together. #StudentessaMatta #CulturaItalianaArezzo #Arezzo #ItalianLanguage #TuscanyItaly
First day of Italian lessons… Tuscan villa style! First day of Italian lessons… Tuscan villa style! 🇮🇹☀️📚 Teachers Sara and Giusy from Cultura Italiana Arezzo ventured out of their Arezzo classrooms and into the Tuscan countryside to bring Italian lessons directly to us! And really… who needs a classroom when you can study Italian all’aperto under the Tuscan sky or inside in the cool air conditioning with a view of the pool? 😎🏊‍♀️ From where I’m sitting, I’m already hearing lots of laughter, lots of conversation and LOTS of Italian! The villa is officially buzzing with italiano… and we are off to a fantastic start! Vivi l’Italia, parla italiano! 🇮🇹 #StudentessaMatta #LearnItalian #ItalianImmersion #ItalianInTuscany
DAY 3 of our Tuscan Language Adventure began brigh DAY 3 of our Tuscan Language Adventure began bright and early... poolside! Our yoga teacher from Arezzo, Dimitra led us through a morning yoga lesson, but naturally, this being an Italian immersion adventure, we were learning our yoga terms in Italian along the way! Respira... inspira... espira... allunga... rilassati... Who knew Italian grammar could be practiced in downward dog? After yoga, there was time for a little sunning, swimming and relaxing by the pool before switching gears for afternoon out door Italian lessons.
