Dopo sei settimane piene di divertimento e di lingua in Italia questo autunno, sono tornata a casa. Sono felice di raccontare che i programmi d’immersione linguistica Matta 2025 sono stati un grande successo! Ogni programma è stato pieno di studenti dinamici, curiosi e appassionati che hanno dato vita alla loro gioia e al loro entusiasmo per imparare l’italiano in Italia. Che avventura! Da Arezzo a giugno a Firenze a settembre, ogni momento è stato pura felicità italiana!
After six fun-filled language-packed weeks in Italy this fall, I’m back home. I’m proud to report the 2025 Matta Italian Immersion Programs were a smashing success! Each program was full of dynamic, curious, and passionate students who brought their joy and enthusiasm for learning Italian in Italy to life. What a ride! From Arezzo in June to Florence in September, every moment was pure felicità italiana!

Che periodo meraviglioso abbiamo trascorso durante il programma di Arezzo di giugno! Sette donne straordinarie si sono unite a me per 14 giorni indimenticabili di lingua, risate e vita all’italiana presso Cultura Italiana Arezzo. Dalle degustazioni di vino alle lezioni di cucina, ogni giorno ha portato con sé una nuova avventura nelle splendide piazze di Arezzo.
What a wonderful time we had during the June Arezzo Program! Seven incredible women joined me for 14 unforgettable days of language learning, laughter, and Italian living at Cultura Italiana Arezzo. From wine tastings to cooking classes, every day brought a new adventure in Arezzo’s beautiful piazze.

Non ho potuto resistere alla tentazione di tornare ad Arezzo per un breve programma di fine settimana incentrato sull’edizione autunnale della Giostra del Saracino. Questa volta, un gruppo di cinque persone si è unito a me per vivere in prima persona l’atmosfera festosa.
I couldn’t resist returning to Arezzo for a short weekend program built around the Fall Edition of the Giostra del Saracino. This time, a group of five joined me to experience the festive atmosphere firsthand.
C’erano costumi, tamburi, bandiere e balli per le strade! Abbiamo assaporato ogni secondo della magia medievale di Arezzo, imparato le antiche tradizioni della città e—naturalmente—ci siamo concessi qualche pausa caffè mentre chiacchieravamo in italiano.
There were costumes, drums, banners, and dancing in the streets! We soaked up every second of Arezzo’s medieval magic, learned about the city’s historic traditions, and—of course—snuck in a few espresso breaks while chatting in Italian.

Dopo Arezzo, l’avventura è proseguita verso nord, a Firenze, per il programma autunnale Matta 2025! La mia scuola partner ItalianMe, situata nella raffinata Piazza Strozzi, ha offerto l’ambiente perfetto per i nostri studi. Ogni mattina passeggiavamo dai nostri appartamenti individuali nell’Oltrarno, attraversando Ponte Santa Trinita con il sole che sorgeva sopra il Ponte Vecchio — un capolavoro quotidiano!
After Arezzo, the adventure continued north to Florence for the 2025 Fall Matta Program! My partner school ItalianMe, located in elegant Piazza Strozzi, provided the perfect setting for our studies. Each morning, we strolled from our individual apartments in the Oltrarno, crossing Ponte Santa Trinita with the sun rising over the Ponte Vecchio—a daily masterpiece!
Un momento indimenticabile? Condividere aperitivi sull’Angel Rooftop Bar, guardando il sole tramontare dietro il Duomo e Palazzo Vecchio. Firenze scintillava ai nostri piedi mentre brindavamo in italiano: “Alla vita, all’amicizia e alla lingua italiana!”
One highlight? Sharing aperitivi on the Angel Rooftop Bar, watching the sun dip behind the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. Florence sparkled below as we toasted in Italian: Alla vita, all’amicizia, e alla lingua italiana!
Le nostre giornate erano piene di tour artigianali, degustazioni di vino, una lezione di cucina pratica con MaMa Florence e un affascinante tour a piedi sui Medici. Davvero, una settimana degna di un principe — o di una principessa — rinascimentale!
Our days were filled with artisan tours, wine tastings, a hands-on cooking class with MaMa Florence, and a fascinating Medici walking tour. Truly, a week fit for a Renaissance prince—or princess!

I just completed a week long enrollment in the ItalianMe language school in Florence, which was arranged by Melissa Muldoon of StudentessaMatta. I found the teachers and staff to be professional and most hospitable. I believe my ability and confidence to converse in Italian, which was my goal, improved as a result of this class.
As for Melissa, she’s an expert at planning a language immersion program in Italy. All one needs to do is sign up. She takes care of everything from enrolling you in school to organizing after class activities led by native speakers that enforce the language immersion experience. These activities are always interesting, educational and fun. By the way, the Florence program was my second program with Melissa. I participated in the immersion program in Luca 3 years ago. Anche se la mia valigia è ormai disfare, il mio cuore italiano continua a battere! Trascorrerò il resto dell’autunno, dell’inverno e della primavera insegnando online, conducendo il Matta Italian Book Club e scrivendo nuove storie e consigli linguistici per il blog Studentessa Matta.
Though my suitcase is unpacked, my Italian heart beats on! I’ll be spending the rest of fall, winter, and spring teaching online, running the Matta Italian Book Club, and writing new stories and language tips for the Studentessa Matta Blog.

Matta Italian Language Tip!
Using the pronomi “Ci”
When you talk about your travel memories in Italian, don’t forget to use “ci” to replace a place that has already been mentioned in the conversation!
The pronoun “ci” is extremely useful and appears very often in everyday speech. In this case, it means “in that place” or “there,” and it helps you avoid repeating the name of the location.
Sono stata ad Arezzo quest’estate. Ci tornerò l’anno prossimo!
(I was in Arezzo this summer. I’ll go back there next year!)
Siamo andati a Firenze per vedere il Duomo. Ci siamo trovati benissimo!
(We went to Florence to see the Duomo. We had a great time there!)
Remember: using “ci” makes your Italian sound more natural, smooth, and authentic—just like that of native speakers!
