“Italian for my girl friend” – Delightful way to learn Italian idioms with daily drawings

Oggi ho fatto una scoperta molto sorprendente e volevo condividerla con voi. Ancora una volta, girovagando su internet mi sono imbattuta su un sito favoloso per l’apprendimento dell’italiano. Proprio quando pensavo di aver trovato tutti i siti per imparare l’italiano, trovo questo tesoro nascosto su Tumblr.com. Il blog si chiama “Italian for my girl friend” e lo adoro assolutamente. È stato amore a prima vista e ho continuato ad innamorarmi mentre scorrevo le immagini disegnate in un modo capriccioso. È la creatura di Rosangela Ludovico che disegna ogni giorno uno scarabocchio per insegnare l’italiano a Denise, la sua fidanzata americana.

Today I made the most amazing discovering and wanted to share it with you. Once again wandering around the internet I stumbled upon a fabulous site for learning Italian. Just when I thought I had found all the websites to learn Italian, I find this treasure of a blog hidden in the Tumblr.com site. The blog is called “Italian for my girl friend” and I absolutely adore it. It was love at first sight for me and I just melted as I scrolled through whimsically drawn pictures. It is the creation of Rosangela Ludovico and each day she draws a little doodle to teach Italian to Denise, her American girlfriend. 

Sul blog Rosangela racconta: / On her blog Rosangela writes:

“Io sono italiana, e la mia fidanzata Denise è americana. Parliamo in inglese, ma lei vorrebbe imparare l’italiano. Così la sto aiutando da riempire un libro con le illustrazioni quotidiane di parole italiane, concetti e modi di dire”.

“I am Italian, and my girlfriend Denise is American. We communicate in English, but she would like to learn my native language. So I’m helping her out by filling a sketchbook with daily illustrations of Italian words, concepts, and idioms.”

Denise, anche lei un’artista scrive: Denise, who is also an artist writes:

Rosy ed io parliamo spesso di cose interessanti sulle nostre rispettive lingue, e una cosa notevole che mi ha detto è che l’italiano ha parole diverse per fette di agrumi (spicchio) rispetto a fette di altre cose (fetta di torta). Ho pensato che fosse un concetto interessante da disegnare. Rosy ha trovato il mio scarabocchio adorabile, così il progetto è iniziato.

Rosy and I often talk about interesting things about our respective languages, and one cool thing she told me is that Italian has different words for slices of citrus fruit (spicchio) versus slices of other things (fetta). I thought this was cool enough of an idea to draw. Rosy found my doodle adorable, and it ended up sparking the idea for this whole project.

Se siete come me, una studentessa che imparare visualmente, potete apprezzare e ammirare questi disegni che Rosangela fa ogni giorno per Denise. Penso che sia allegri e gioiosi che divertenti e stimolanti. Non vedo l’ora di vedere cosa disegnerà domani! Forse anch’io comincio a creare alcuni disegni! Complimenti Denise e Rosangela! I find them to be lighthearted and joyful as well as a lot of fun and inspiring. I can’t wait to see what she will draw tomorrow! Maybe I’ll even start making some drawings of my own!
