Join the 5-week Matta Italian Group Book Club reading seminar as we dive into Miss Bee e il cadavere in biblioteca, the first novel in Alessia Gazzola’s charming, witty, and intriguing Miss Bee mystery series!
Set in 1920s London, the story introduces Beatrice Bernabò, affectionately known as Miss Bee, a clever, spirited young Italian woman living in England with her family. Independent, curious, and delightfully ahead of her time, Miss Bee finds herself swept into the glamorous but secretive world of British high society. When a dinner invitation from an aristocratic neighbor leads to a mysterious crime, Beatrice becomes entangled in a web of secrets, romantic intrigue, and unexpected suspects, including the charming Christopher “Kit” Ashbury and the enigmatic Scotland Yard Chief Inspector Archer Blackburn.
Blending the intrigue of Agatha Christie with the elegance of Downton Abbey and a dash of Bridgerton romance, this delightful Italian novel offers mystery, humor, and plenty of opportunities to explore the Italian language!
Throughout our 5-week seminar, we’ll explore the novel’s vocabulary, characters, historical setting, and cultural themes in a welcoming, supportive environment. Enjoy lively Italian conversation, guided reading discussions, and specially prepared study materials in small-group Zoom sessions, led by Melissa Muldoon, la Studentessa Matta herself!
Be a “tipo tosto” like Miss Bee! Challenge yourself to read an entire novel in Italian this fall. You don’t need to understand every word to enjoy the adventure. With a little curiosity, determination, and guidance, you’ll build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and gain confidence speaking Italian.
Un mistero da risolvere, un romanzo da scoprire e tanto italiano da praticare!
One mystery to solve, one delightful novel to discover, and plenty of Italian to practice!
