Ciao bella! 💋🇮🇹 We all say it. We all know it. And Ciao bella! 💋🇮🇹
We all say it. We all know it. And yet… ciao has a surprising backstory.
Today, ciao is the ultimate casual Italian greeting—cool, modern, and understood almost everywhere (hello and goodbye!). But its roots are anything but trendy…
✨ Fun fact: Ciao traces back to Venice, where people once greeted each other with a phrase that meant something like “I am your servant” (a super polite, old-school way of saying “at your service”). Over time, that expression got shortened, smoothed out, and voilà—ciao was born.
So the next time you toss out a quick “ciao!” just remember: you’re basically channeling a little Venetian history with every syllable. 🛶💙
Do you use ciao more for “hi” or “bye”? Tell me below! 👇

Matta Florence Program | Sept 26 – Oct 5, 2026

Come live like a local in Oltrarno—in your own private apartment—and study Italian in the heart of the city at ItalianMe Language School (Via Tornabuoni). Mornings are for language + confidence… and afternoons are for living Italian with me: guided walks, artisan neighborhoods, museums, aperitivi, and mini-excursions beyond the city.

Excursions + curated activities with Melissa
Most dinners included (because the best conversations happen at the table)
Private apartment included

A small-group immersion that feels like a family experience —and works like magic for your Italian
Spots are limited. If Florence has been calling you… this is your sign.

🇮🇹 Un consiglio dalla Matta 🇮🇹
Matta Italian Lan 🇮🇹 Un consiglio dalla Matta 🇮🇹

Matta Italian Language Tip!

Don’t measure progress by counting “mistakes.”

MEASURE IT BY COUNTING WHAT YOU CAN NOW SAY
SMOOTHLY, WITHOUT CHECKING NOTES, AND WITHOUT TRANSLATING EVERY WORD IN YOUR HEAD.

Write one signature sentence for each level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1): something you genuinely couldn’t have produced before.

Then add one “upgrade” version of that same sentence (adding something new: a connector, a pronoun, a past tense, a congiuntivo—just one new brick).

Save them all in a single note on your phone (title it: “My Italian Bricks”). Re-read them in a month: you’ll see real growth on the page—and you’ll know exactly what to practice next, because the next brick practically suggests itself.
