Matta Italian Word of the Day: CIANFRUSAGLI ✨ Eve Matta Italian Word of the Day: CIANFRUSAGLI ✨

Ever open a drawer and find… a whole bunch of random stuff you forgot you even owned? 🤣

In Italian, we call those little odds and ends — the knick-knacks, trinkets, clutter, and “why on earth do I still have this?” items — cianfrusagli!

But don’t worry… even cianfrusagli can hold sweet memories. Sometimes the smallest things tell the biggest stories.

Try it in a sentence:

“Devo fare ordine… ho troppe cianfrusagli in casa!”

(I need to tidy up… I have too many odds and ends in the house!)

Italian “MATTA” Holiday Word of the Day: PRESEPE I Italian “MATTA” Holiday Word of the Day: PRESEPE
In Italy, the presepe isn’t just a nativity scene — it’s a beloved art form! From simple tabletop displays to elaborate miniature villages with moving parts, lights, and tiny figures, Italians take their presepi very seriously. 🎄✨

You’ll find them everywhere during the holidays: in homes, churches, museums, and even entire town squares. Naples is especially famous for its artisans who craft presepi all year long.

Want to sprinkle more Italian culture + vocabulary into your holidays? 🇮🇹🎁 Head over to the Studentessa Matta website for more festive learning tips and fun Italian lessons and blog posts about Italian language and culture!

🇮🇹 Un consiglio dalla Matta 🇮🇹
Matta Italian Lan 🇮🇹 Un consiglio dalla Matta 🇮🇹

Matta Italian Language Tip!

Direct from the latest Studentessa Matta blog post about making holiday lists in Italiano

Watch out for “lista”… and “A-lista!”

AS YOUR HOLIDAY LISTS GROW LONGER,
HERE’S A CHEERFUL ITALIAN TIDBIT TO ENJOY:

In Italian, “lista” is your everyday “list,” but if someone says “sei all’ultimo della lista”, it doesn’t mean you forgot to write your name—it means you’re last in line or not exactly a priority. Ouch! 😅

On the other hand, if someone tells you “ti metto in lista” for a party, congratulations—you just made the VIP list, Italian-style!

BONUS HOLIDAY EXPRESSION:

If your to-do list is getting out of hand, you can say:

“Ho una lista che non finisce più!”
—“I have a list that never ends!”
