Italian, friendship, wine, and Tuscan living… what more could you ask for?
Che settimana! Il nostro 2026 Matta & Cultura Italiana Learn Italian in a Tuscan Villa Program è iniziato ad Arezzo, dove un fantastico gruppo di studenti di italiano si è riunito prima di partire insieme per la campagna toscana.
What a week! Our 2026 Matta & Cultura Italiana Learn Italian in a Tuscan Villa Program began in Arezzo, where a fantastic group of Italian language students gathered before setting off together for the Tuscan countryside.
La nostra casa per la settimana? Una splendida villa con piscina tra le colline vicino ad Arezzo, dove potevamo studiare italiano, mangiare, bere, nuotare, rilassarci e vivere davvero insieme all’italiana.
Our home for the week? A beautiful villa with a pool tucked into the hills near Arezzo, where we could study Italian, eat, drink, swim, relax, and truly live together Italian-style.

We Started with a Toast!
Appena arrivati alla villa, abbiamo dato il via alla settimana nel modo giusto: con un aperitivo e una degustazione di vini guidata da Julien di Vinbriaco. Con i calici alzati e la campagna toscana intorno a noi, l’avventura era ufficialmente cominciata!
As soon as we arrived at the villa, we started the week properly: with an aperitivo and wine tasting led by Julien of Vinbriaco. With glasses raised and the Tuscan countryside surrounding us, our adventure was officially underway!
E naturalmente non poteva mancare la cucina. Con Rosaria abbiamo messo le mani in pasta, preparando pane e taralli e scoprendo ancora una volta che alcune delle migliori conversazioni in italiano nascono proprio intorno a un tavolo da cucina.
And naturally, food had to be part of the experience. With Rosaria, we rolled up our sleeves to make bread and taralli, discovering once again that some of the best conversations in Italian happen around a kitchen table.
In giro per la Toscana
Exploring Tuscany Together
Durante la settimana siamo partiti alla scoperta dei dintorni. A Montepulciano abbiamo passeggiato per le strade del borgo e pranzato con una vista mozzafiato nel ristorante di un ex calciatore dell’Arezzo. E naturalmente… foto di gruppo con il calciatore!
During the week, we set out to explore the surrounding countryside. In Montepulciano, we wandered through the hill town and enjoyed lunch with a breathtaking view at the restaurant of a former Arezzo football player. And naturally… we had to get a group photo with the footballer!
Abbiamo esplorato Arezzo e Cortona con Gianmarco, scoprendo storia, arte, chiese, piazze e angoli curiosi. E a soli dieci minuti dalla villa ci aspettava Tenuta Frassineto, dove abbiamo degustato vini e fatto un picnic sull’erba.
We explored Arezzo and Cortona with Gianmarco, discovering history, art, churches, piazzas, and intriguing corners along the way. And just ten minutes from our villa, Tenuta Frassineto was waiting for us, where we tasted wines and enjoyed a picnic on the lawn.
Yoga, acquerelli e vita in villa
Yoga, Watercolors, and Villa Life
Le nostre mattine avevano un ritmo tutto loro. Con Dimitria, la nostra flessibilissima istruttrice, abbiamo fatto yoga e Pilates a bordo piscina. Alcuni di noi erano decisamente più flessibili di altri!
Our mornings had a rhythm all their own. With Dimitria, our extremely flexible instructor, we practiced yoga and Pilates poolside. Some of us were definitely more flexible than others!
Un’altra mattina abbiamo trovato il nostro artista italiano interiore durante una lezione di acquerello con Laura Ghezzi. Pennelli in mano, italiano sulle labbra e la Toscana intorno a noi. Non male come aula!
Another morning, we discovered our inner Italian artists during a watercolor lesson with Laura Ghezzi. Paintbrushes in hand, Italian on our lips, and Tuscany all around us. Not a bad classroom!
Abbiamo festeggiato compleanni, nuotato, preso il sole, riso tantissimo e naturalmente ci siamo goduti qualche Spritz al tramonto. La sera ci ritrovavamo intorno al tavolo, davanti a un piatto di pasta e un bicchiere di vino, per raccontarci la giornata.
We celebrated birthdays, swam, soaked up the sunshine, laughed a lot, and naturally enjoyed a Spritz or two as the sun went down. In the evenings, we gathered around the table over plates of pasta and glasses of wine to share stories about our day.

But We’re Here to Speak Italian!
Tra una gita, un bicchiere di vino e un tuffo in piscina, non abbiamo dimenticato il vero cuore del programma: la lingua italiana!
Between excursions, glasses of wine, and dips in the pool, we never forgot the true heart of the program: the Italian language!
Ogni pomeriggio, le insegnanti di Cultura Italiana Arezzo lasciavano la città e venivano da noi alla villa. Gli studenti erano divisi secondo i vari livelli, così ognuno poteva studiare, parlare e fare progressi in un ambiente rilassato e coinvolgente.
Every afternoon, the teachers from Cultura Italiana Arezzo left the city and came out to teach us at the villa. Students were divided according to their different levels, so everyone could study, speak, and make progress in a relaxed and engaging environment.
Abbiamo concluso le lezioni con giochi linguistici, risate e tanta energia. Studiare italiano in una villa toscana con vista sulla piscina? Sì, direi che funziona!
We finished our lessons with lively language games, laughter, and lots of energy. Studying Italian in a Tuscan villa overlooking the pool? Yes, I’d say that works!
Siamo arrivati come gruppo. Siamo partiti come amici.
We Arrived as a Group. We Left as Friends.
La cosa più bella della settimana, però, non è stata una singola escursione, una lezione o una degustazione.
The best part of the week, however, wasn’t any single excursion, lesson, or wine tasting.
È stato vedere un gruppo di persone, unite dall’amore per l’italiano e per l’Italia, diventare poco a poco una piccola famiglia. Abbiamo imparato insieme, mangiato insieme, viaggiato insieme, riso insieme e creato ricordi che porteremo con noi ben oltre la Toscana.
It was watching a group of people, united by a love of Italian and Italy, slowly become a little family. We learned together, ate together, traveled together, laughed together, and created memories we’ll carry with us long after leaving Tuscany.

And in 2027… We’re Doing It Again!
Ho una bellissima notizia! Paola Testi, direttrice di Cultura Italiana Arezzo, ed io abbiamo deciso di ripetere l’esperienza nel settembre 2027, nella stessa villa!
I have wonderful news! Paola Testi, director of Cultura Italiana Arezzo, and I have decided to repeat the experience in September 2027, in the same villa!
E questa volta vogliamo rendere ancora più facile partecipare anche con un compagno, un amico o un familiare che non studia italiano. I non-studenti saranno i benvenuti con una tariffa ridotta: niente lezioni, ma potranno godersi la vita in villa, il cibo, il vino e partecipare alle nostre escursioni.
And this time, we want to make it even easier to bring along a partner, friend, or family member who isn’t studying Italian. Non-students will be welcome at a reduced rate: no language lessons, but they can enjoy villa life, the food, the wine, and join us on our excursions.

Un ultimo pensiero Matta…
One Last Matta Thought…
Per imparare davvero una lingua bisogna viverla. Bisogna usarla per ordinare il vino, impastare il pane, chiedere indicazioni, fare una battuta, conoscere una persona nuova e raccontare una storia mentre il sole tramonta sulla campagna toscana.
To truly learn a language, you have to live it. You have to use it to order wine, knead bread, ask directions, make a joke, meet someone new, and tell a story while the sun sets over the Tuscan countryside.
Questo è il modo Matta di imparare l’italiano.

“Mettere le mani in pasta” literally means “to put your hands in the dough,” but it is also an Italian expression meaning to get actively involved or take a hands-on role in something.
During our villa week, we did both: we literally put our hands in the dough with Rosaria… and we dove headfirst into Italian language and life!
