Sono Melissa, la matta, e oggi è il 12 aprile. Benvenuti! In questo episodio parleremo di Homestay Italian Language Vacations. Prima di iniziare però volevo farvi sapere che ho una bella notizia. Oltre al podcast “Tutti matti per l’Italiano“, il blog Matta, il sito di Instagram per Studentessa Matta, la bacheca di Pinterest per la Matta e la pagina di Facebook Matta…ho appena iniziato un canale su YouTube! Giusto! Adesso sono su YouTube! Social Media è fantastico, no?!? Ci sono così tanti modi per condividere il nostro amore per l’Italia, per imparare l’italiano e per migliorare le competenze linguistiche. Allora venite a trovarmi sul nuovo Canale YouTube Matta. Io registrerò brevi video di pochi minuti, tutti in italiano, e li pubblicherò a caso durante la settimana. Assicuratevi di iscrivervi al canale, perché non vorrete perdere l’opportunità di vederlo in anteprima!
I am Melissa, la matta, and today is April 12. Welcome! In today’s podcast, we will be talking about Homestay Italian Language Vacations. Before getting started however, I have some news to share with you. In addition to the “Tutti per l’italiano” podcast, the blog Matta, the Studentessa Matta Instagram site, the Matta Pinterest boards and the Matta Facebook page…I have just recently started a YouTube channel! That’s right! I am now on YouTube! Isn’t social media great! So many ways to share our love for Italy and learn Italian and improve our language skills. So come find me on my Matta YouTube Channel. I will be making short videos all in Italian and publish them randomly throughout the week. Be sure to subscribe to the channel, because you wouldn’t want to miss out on being one of the first to preview it!
Che posso dire…io vado matta per la lingua, il paese e la cultura italiana! Sono sempre così felice quando trovo un nuovo modo per condividere con voi le cose che imparo e provo quando viaggio in Italia. È per questo che ho iniziato i Language Workshop Matta in Italia in cui collaboro con i soci italiani e le scuole di lingua. Quest’anno, per esempio, tornerò a Lucca in Toscana a settembre per studiare a “Lucca Italian School” con dieci altri studenti entusiasti come me! Saremo lì per la festa di Santa Croce e vivremo come la gente del posto per dodici giorni…studiando, cucinando, degustando vino e viaggiando insieme per la Toscana. Quest’anno il viaggio a Lucca è già al completo, ma non disperate, perché potete ancora accompagnarmi a ROMA a luglio (dal 5 al 14) per vivere con me e Kelly Medford come veri romani. Studieremo presso Scud’It, la scuola di Roberto Tartaglione nel cuore del centro storico, vicino al Colosseo e impareremo a disegnare e dipingere con Kelly, la nostra artista. What can I say I go a little crazy for the Italian language, Italy, and all my Italian friends! I am always so delighted when I find a new way to share the things that I learn and feel when I travel and learn in Italy. That is why I started the Matta Language Workshops in Italy that I collaborate on with Italian partners and Language schools. This year, for example, I will be returning to Lucca in September to study at Lucca Italian School with 10 other enthusiastic language learners like myself. We will be there for the festival of the Holy Cross and we will live like locals for 12 days, studying, cooking, sipping wine, and traveling around Tuscany together. This year’s Lucca trip is all booked up, but don’t despair because you can still accompany me to ROMA this coming July (from the 5th – 14th) to live with me and Kelly Medford like true Romans. We will study at Scud’It, Roberto Tartaglione’s school in the heart of the historic city center near the Coleseum AND learn to draw and paint with Kelly Medford, our artist. Un Homestay Language Vacation è una meravigliosa opportunità per soggiornare in Italia e per imparare la lingua, alloggiando con un insegnante d’italiano e la sua famiglia. Niente è più efficace per imparare una lingua straniera che vivere sul posto a stretto contatto con un tutor che è specializzato nell’insegnamento della sua madrelingua! Si diventa davvero parte integrante della famiglia, godendo insieme i pasti e condividendo la vita di tutti i giorni.
Are you scratching your heads wondering what the heck is a Homestay Language Vacation? Well, let me tell you! This is a wonderful opportunity for you to travel to Italy and stay with an Italian teacher and their family. Nothing is more effective for learning a foreign language than to live in close contact with a tutor who is specialized in teaching their native language in the country where this language is spoken! In fact you will become an integral part of the family, enjoying meals and domestic life, living like a true Italian.
Il vostro insegnante vi darà lezioni strutturate, ma dopo le lezioni potrete continuare ad immergervi nella lingua e cultura italiana. Trascorrere un’intera giornata in un contesto familiare, che unisce un paio d’ore di insegnamento “tradizionale” ai tanti stimoli che la vita quotidiana offre, è il modo più naturale e meno stressante per fare progressi. Cucinerete cene, andrete al mercato, incontrerete gli amici e farete anche gite con il/la vostra insegnante. Vivrete in modo rilassato, sviluppando relazioni personali con il vostro insegnante e le loro famiglie e essendo trattati come membri della famiglia. Homestay Language Vacations, tipicamente può durare una o due settimane…e, in alcuni casi, fino ad un mese intero. La cosa migliore di questo tipo di vacanza è che è possibile organizzare una vacanza “su misura”.
Your teacher will set aside time to give you structured language lessons, but after the lessons are done, you will continue to immerse yourself in the language and Italian culture. Spending an entire day in a family context, combining a few hours of “traditional” teaching to the many stimuli that daily life offers, is the most natural and less stressful way to make progress in learning a language. You will cook dinners, go to the market, meet friends, and even sightsee with your Italian Homestay teacher. You will continue your learning process in a relaxed way, developing personal relationships with your teacher and their families and be treated like a member of the family. Homestay language vacations typically can last a week or two weeks… and sometimes even a whole month. The best thing about this type of vacation is that you can set up a language vacation that best suits your travel schedule and vacation time.

Ora voglio condividere con voi una breve conversazione che ho avuto l’altro giorno con Elena, una mia amica e un’insegnante che vive a Bergamo. Elena ha anche una residenza estiva sul lago di Como e può quindi accogliervi anche nella sua casa sul lago. Elena ama la sua città, Bergamo, e ve ne mostrerà tranquillamente sia la parte superiore e che la parte inferiore e vi porterà in tutta la zona circostante. Lei è una guida turistica con tanta esperienza! Attualmente una signora australiana sta con Elena che ha trovato il Homestay di Elena attraverso il blog Matta. L’altro giorno abbiamo chiacchierato su Skype. Ecco la nostra conversazione.
Now I want to share with you a conversation I had the other day with Elena, my friend and Homestay language teacher from Bergamo. Elena also has a summer home on Lake Como and can welcome you into her lake home. Elena loves her hometown of Bergamo and happily will show you both the upper and lower parts and take you all over the surrounding area. She is an experienced tour guide, to boot! Currently, a student from Australia is staying with Elena, who found Elena’s Homestay through the Matta Blog. The other day we Elena and I chatted on Skype. Here is our chat.
