Ryan and me having lunch in the Vatican cafeteria – Summer 2011

30 Days of Indie Travel Project Day 14: “ What’s your favorite quote about travel? Why does it stand out to you?“ : To Read the blog in Italian click here

Today’s favorite travel quote is: “Let’s bounce!”

The expression is brought to you by my oldest son, Ryan and has become a standard catch phrase for our entire family. “Let’s bounce!” or “It’s time to bounce!” pretty much sums up my son’s full blown energy, enthusiasm and vitality for moving through life, like a great big rubber ball that is always bouncing. It communicates the classic idea: “I came, I saw, I conquered, and now I am impatient & it is time to move on and see what more is out there!”

When I travel, I am not a slow traveler…at all! Like my son, I have high energy from the moment wheels touch down and I am standing on foreign soil. I have no time for jet lag and simply won’t waste my time in some darkened hotel room shutting out daylight hours, when I can be out striding through neighborhoods and soaking up foreign ambience and chatting it up with street vendors. Oh, I may tell people that I go to Italy to enjoy la dolce vita and to slow my life down. But, in reality I have museums, churches and towns to visit, people to meet and food to be consumed. I don’t want to miss a moment. I save up my traveling moments and they are precious to me, so of course I am going to grab all the gusto I can in the short amount of time allotted. There will be plenty of time for resting back at the ranch. So, when I travel, like son, like mother…I’m always bouncing!
