Durante il mese di marzo, ogni settimana ho pubblicato una parola o un’espressione combinato con un’immagine sulla pagina di Facebook di Studentessa Matta. Queste sono parole casuali che mi sono imbattuto durante la lettura o che ho sentito nei film che ho trovato utile e degno di essere evidenziato.
During the month of March, every week I posted a word or an expression combined with an image on the Studentessa Matta Facebook page. These are random words that I came across while reading or that I heard in movies that I found useful and worth highlighting.

Parliamo dei piedi / It’s all about the feet
in piedi = standing
a piedi = walking by foot
in punto di piedi = tiptoe
A piede libero = out of jail
Andarci coi piedi di piombo = to be cautious
Cadere in piedi = to land on one’s feet, to come out of a situation without damage
Fuori dai piedi! = clear out!
Leccapiedi = brownnose
Ragionare coi piedi = to be illogical
Su due piedi = on the spot
Inquietante = Che costituisce motivo di preoccupazione o d’apprensione; preoccupante, allarmante.
Stiamo indagando su una diceria molto inquietante.
We are investigating a very disturbing rumor.
Ho appena sentito qualcosa di molto inquietante.
I just heard something very alarming.
Spremere = squeeze
È come spremere succo da una roccia.
It’s like squeezing juice from a stone.
Spremuta = freshly squeezed juice
A colazione bevo sempre una spremuta d’arancia.
For breakfast I always drink a freshly squeezed orange juice.
Spremersi = to rack one’s brains
Un bigliettaio non deve spremersi il cervello per forare i biglietti.
A ticket taker doesn’t have to rack his brains to punch tickets.
Arginare = to stem, to contain, or to dam up
Va tutto bene, sono riusciti ad arginare l’incendio.
Everything is okay, they were able to contain the fire
Non possiamo arginare l’onda del cambiamento.
We can not stem the tide of change.
