Se vuoi iniziare il nuovo anno con un divertente giallo italiano con un tocco comico, non guardare oltre la nuova offerta di Netflix “7 donne e un Mistero” (Titolo inglese: Seven Women and a Murder), diretta da Alessandro Genovesi. Il film ha come protagonisti Margherita Buy, Diana Del Bufalo, Sabrina Impacciatore, Benedetta Porcaroli, Micaela Ramazzotti, Luisa Ranieri e Ornella Vanoni.

If you want to start the New Year off with a fun Italian murder mystery with a dark comedic twist, look no further than Netflix’s new offering “7 donne e un mistero” (Seven Women and a Murder), directed by Alessandro Genovesi. The film features a star-studded lineup of actresses: Margherita Buy, Diana Del Bufalo, Sabrina Impacciatore, Benedetta Porcaroli, Micaela Ramazzotti, Luisa Ranieri, and Ornella Vanoni.

Per un pubblico più contemporaneo, il film ha un’atmosfera “Knives Out Murder Mystery”. Per gli appassionati di misteri vintage, mi fa ricordare una versione più leggera di Agatha Christie “Dieci piccoli indiani.”

For a more contemporary crowd, the film has a “Knives Out Murder Mystery” vibe. For fans of vintage mysteries, it is reminiscent of a lighter version of Agatha Christie’s “And then there were none.” (1965 Film title: Ten little Indians.)

La trama.

The plot.

Quando Marcello, un uomo ricco, viene ucciso a Natale nella sua villa, le sette donne della sua vita riunite a casa sua per le vacanze, diventano sospette. Sono tutte eccentriche, e ognuno ha un motivo plausibile. Ognuno ha segreti che nascondono e altre curiosità compromettenti che sono disposti a divulgare sugli altri. 

When Marcello, a wealthy man, is murdered on Christmas in his villa, the seven women in his life assembled at his home for the holidays, become suspects. They are all eccentric, and each has a plausible motive. Each has secrets they are hiding and other compromising tidbits they are willing to divulge about the others. 

Mentre c’è una bufera di neve fuori dalla villa, con le linee telefoniche tagliate e nessun modo per raggiungere la polizia, le donne intrappolate nella casa si uniscono per trovare l’assassino tra di loro. Appaiono indizi, molti apparentemente piantati, rendendoli tutti più diffidenti di chi dice la verità. Mentre puntano le dita, con il corpo ancora a letto, segreti sorprendenti vengono rivelati ad ogni svolta.

As a snowstorm rages outside the villa, with phone lines cut and no way to reach the police, the women trapped in the house band together to find the killer among them. Clues appear, many seemingly planted, making them all the warier of who’s telling the truth. As they point fingers, with the body still in the bed, surprising secrets are revealed at every turn.

Durante il film, scopriamo che due donne nella casa hanno una storia d’amore con Marcello, e un’altra è innamorata di lui. Tuttavia, altri nascondono i suoi segreti, e veniamo a sapere che una delle sue figlie non era sua.

Throughout the film, we learn that two women in the house are having affairs with Marcello, and another is in love with him. Still, others are harboring his secrets, and we learn that one of his daughters was not his own.

Chi non vorrebbe uccidere quest’uomo?!

Who wouldn’t want to murder this man?!

Fatto divertente. Non riusciamo mai a vedere la faccia di Marcello. Al massimo, vediamo la sua schiena con il coltello – l’arma del delitto – ancora saldamente impiantato, o la parte posteriore della sua testa nelle scene di flashback.

Fun fact. We never actually get to see Marcello’s face. At most, we glimpse his back with the knife — the murder weapon — still firmly implanted or the back of his head in flashback scenes.

La storia è ambientato in Italia negli anni ’30. I costumi d’epoca e le acconciature sono fantastici, e la scenografia rievoca uno spettacolo teatrale. Il film è lunga 84 minuti, ma si muove in modo costante. Le battute tra le donne sono sarcastiche e il ritmo delle scene tiene il passo con la struttura satirica generale e la scrittura.

The story is set in Italy in the 1930s. The period costumes and hairstyles are fantastic, and the set and staging are reminiscent of a multiple-act play. The film is 84 minutes long but moves at a steady clip. The banter between the women is sarcastic, and the pace of the scenes successfully keeps up with the overall satirical structure and writing.

Mi è piaciuta particolarmente la scena in cui le donne mangiavano il loro pranzo di Natale tutti insieme!

I especially enjoyed the scene in which the women ate their Christmas dinner all together!

7 donne e un Mistero è lezioso ma ancora divertente da guardare nell’originale italiano. Nonostante la crisi isterica e il puntamento delle dita, l’intera prova li avvicina tutti e li lega in un modo unico. E mentre la conclusione della trama non era come climatica come avevo sperato, era ancora soddisfacente.

7 donne e un mistero is campy yet still fun to watch in the original Italian. Despite the hysterics and pointing of fingers, the entire ordeal brings them all closer and bonds them in a unique way. And although the plot twist ending was not as climatic as I was hoping for, still, it was satisfying.
