Felice anno nuovo! What is your dream for 2017?

Addio 2016! Benvenuto 2017!

I giorni che rimangono nel 2017 stanno rapidamente diminuendo. Il 2016 è quasi un ricordo. Un nuovo anno è davanti a noi, all’ orizzonte. Che succederà? Questa è la domanda. Sarà un anno pieno di gioia, sorprese e realizzazioni? Quando chiudete gli occhi e sognate, come vedete il vostro 2017?

The remaining days of 2017 are rapidly dwindling. 2016 is almost a memory. A new year is looming large on the horizon. What is in store for us all? That is the question. Will it be a year full of joy, surprises, and accomplishments? When you close your eyes and dream, what does your 2017 look like? 

Alla fine dell’anno, siamo pieni di attesa e speranza. Un nuovo anno ci saluta e non vediamo l’ora di scrollarci di dosso il mantello di un vecchio anno che puo’ essere stato un po’ deludente. Forse pensavate di creare un bellissimo album fotografico con tutte le foto che sono state archiviate in una scatola riempendosi di polvere, o pensavate di mettervi quel bel vestito che indossavate tre anni fa. Forse pensavate di poter padroneggiare una lingua straniera, o almeno in grado di capire un film in un’altra lingua senza sottotitoli. Forse volevate viaggiare in Italia, ma non avete potuto fissare una data e l’occasione è scivolata via.

At the end of the year, we are filled with anticipation and hope. A new year is beckoning, and we can’t wait to shrug off the cloak of an old year that might have been a little disappointing. Perhaps things didn’t go as planned or on schedule. Perhaps you thought you’d create a beautiful photo album with all those photos that have been sitting in a box collecting dust, or by now be able to fit back into that dress size you wore three years ago. Perhaps you thought you’d be fluent in a language or at the very least able to watch a movie in another language without subtitles and be able to understand it. Perhaps you wanted to travel to Italy but couldn’t set a date, and the opportunity passed you by.

Ma non disperate. 2017 è dietro l’angolo. È una nuova opportunità e un nuovo inizio per fare tutto quello che volete. Tutti quanti hanno un desiderio segreto, o un’ambizione personale o un obiettivo speciale. In Italiano si dice: “un sogno nel cassetto”. Perché gennaio segna nuovi inizi sembra il momento giusto per dare voce a questi desideri e impegnarvi ancora una volta. Io dico sempre ai miei ragazzi: “dovreste sognare in grande. Io ho sogni grandi. Voglio incoraggiare anche voi a sognare in grande.

But don’t despair. 2017 is just around the corner. It is a new chance and a new beginning to accomplish what ever you want. Each of us has a secret desire, or a personal ambition or a special goal. An Italian would say “un sogno nel cassetto”. (to have a dream in a drawer). Because January marks a new beginning, it seems a perfect time to voice these desires and commit to them once again. I always encourage my kids to dream big. I dream big. I encourage you all to dream big too!

Lo so! Qualche volta questi nuovi inizi possono sembrare un po’ spaventosi o richiedere troppo lavoro per realizzarli. Ma dove c’è volontà c’è un modo. Posso dirvi che i risultati sono molto soddisfacenti. Mi è stato necessario superare alcuni timori quando ho iniziato a studiare l’italiano. Ero troppo timida e non volevo parlare.All’inizio non avrei mai pensato che un giorno avrei scritto un blog in Italiano o fatto Podcast e Youtube video in italiano.

I know! Sometimes new beginnings can also be a little scary, and they require a bit of work to accomplish. But where there is a will there is a way. And let me tell you the rewards are oh so satisfying. For me, it was necessary to overcome a few fears when I first started studying Italian. I was too timid and didn’t want to say anything out loud. In the beginning, I never thought someday I’d write a blog in Italian, or record Podcast and Youtube videos in Italian.

Per di più, l’anno scorso quando mi sono seduta davanti al computer per scrivere l’ultimo post del 2015 sul blog non avrei mai immaginato che avrei incontrato la diva più famosa del cinema italiano – Sophia Loren. Ma avevo un grande sogno, scrivere un romanzo sull’Italia. Dopo due anni di scrittura e tante revisioni, ho finito il mio libro nel 2016 e come risultato ho incontrato la Loren, l’ho baciata e le ho raccontato del libro che lei aveva ispirato!

And last year when I sat down to write the last blog post of 2015 I never imagined that I would meet the most famous Italian cinema diva – Sophia Loren. But, I had this crazy dream of writing a novel about Italy. After two years of writing, revisions, and editing, I finished my book in 2016, and as a result, I met La Loren, kissed her on both cheeks, and I told her about the book she had inspired!

Dai! Su! Il 2017 vi aspetta. Tutto è possibile. Ricordatevi: ogni passo in avanti è un passo più vicino al vostro obiettivo. Ognuno di noi tiene le chiavi per la sua felicità. Solo noi ci fermiamo. Solo noi ci spingiamo in avanti. Mi raccomando! Fate un grande sogno e lasciate la vostra immaginazione trasportarvi in un nuovo luogo quest’anno.

Come on! 2017 is waiting. Anything is possible. Just remember: every step forward is a step closer to your goal. Each of us holds the keys to our happiness. We are the only ones holding ourselves back. We are the only ones that can drive ourselves forward. Dream big and let your imagination transport you to a new place this coming year.
