Durante i mesi di gennaio e febbraio, ogni settimana ho pubblicato una parola o un’espressione combinato con un’immagine sulla pagina di Facebook di Studentessa Matta. Queste sono parole casuali che mi sono imbattuto durante la lettura o che ho sentito nei film che ho trovato utile e degno di essere evidenziato.

During the months of January and February, every week I posted a word or an expression combined with an image on the Studentessa Matta Facebook page. These are random words that I came across while reading or that I heard in movies that I found useful and worth highlighting.

Andiamo ad incipriare i nasi

Cipria = Face powder

Andiamo ad incipriarci i nasi = Let’s go powder our noses.

Giorgia è andata in bagno ad incipriarsi il naso.

(as heard last night watching “The Gilmore Girls in Italiano” – “Una mamma per amica” – which is available for Italian viewing on American Netflix.)

La Fiaba = Fairy tale

Cappuccetto Rosso e Cenerentola sono fiabe.
“Ma tu credi ancora alle fiabe che ti racconta tuo fratello?”
Un alto uso di fiaba: “Fits like a glove.” Questo vestito ti sta una fiaba!

Scandire bene le parole

Vuol dire: pronunciare distintamente
“Dovevi scandire bene le parole. / You should annunciate your words clearly.
“E non si dimentichi di scandire bene le parole.” / Don’t forget to pronounce your words distinctly.

Scrigno

Scrigno = treasure chest, trunk
I gioielli erano riposti nello scrigno / The jewels were in the chest.
Il nuovo arrivato è uno scrigno di idee. / The new arrival has a wealth of ideas.

innervosire, innervosirsi

Innervosire = cause annoyance, rile up, miff
Innervosirsi (reflexive verb) = to get upset, annoyed, or irritated
Il rumore del martello pneumatico innervosiva il professore.
Carlo non si innervosisce facilmente.

A fun word to pronounce… for some it takes a little practice. When I first tried to say it I got tongue-tied and became a little annoyed… mi innervosisco (present), mi sono innervosita (present perfect)

DA gonfie vele

Stiamo andando a gonfie vele = we are on a roll here.
Il mio piano è andato a gonfie vele = My plan worked like a dream.
Sento che andrà a gonfie vele. = I’ve got a great feeling about this.

Pizza da Asporto

Chi va di fretta o non vuole rinunciare alla pizza di qualità anche a casa propria, potrà telefonare e passare a ritirare la sua pizza da asporto in pochi minuti.
